Blue-eyed soul crooner Michael McDonald led the Doobie Brothers to fame in the late '70s before embarking on a solo career, capturing fans with his endearingly gruff, R&B-tinged vocals. So it's only fitting that the St. Louis native joined the Motown Records family in 2003.

(THIS IS A 5.1 DVD VIDEO MUSIC CONCERT PLUS 2 CDS)
This is a really good retrospective of this band. The dark and lonely ballads that Karen Carpenter sing take center stage, pushing brother Richard's pop contributions to the background. The album starts strong enough, featuring several of their biggest hits, including "Superstar," "Rainy Days and Mondays," "Goodbye to Love," and "It's Going to Take Some Time." And the album ends with more big hits, such as "Top of the World," "(They Long to Be) Close to You," and "We've Only Just Begun"; even their Klaatu cover, "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft," makes it....

The gifted Gerry Rafferty sometimes soared the staggering singer/songwriter heights of that unattainable deity, Dylan. Unfortunately, this cynical Scot also encountered a variety of corporate roadblocks (hence the title track) that continually affected his productivity. Another blatant shot at the bigwigs looms in "Sign on the Dotted Line," written with future Stealers Wheel partner Joe Egan (the duo detailed industry fatigue further in the sinister "Stuck in the Middle With You"). The limited Rafferty works that actually made it to wax remain potent years later.

Legendary ex-Beach Boy Brian Wilson entered the 21st Century a reformed man. Finally able to lay his personal demons to rest, Wilson staged a series of comeback concerts that saw him performing classic material for the first time in decades. Ably backed by a strong band, Brian surprised his legions of devoted followers with some sparkling renditions of "Pet Sounds" and "Smile" era material, alongside some moving onstage banter with the crowd. This tiny concert at the 500-capacity Roxy in Los Angeles was the spark that kickstarted the revival, and is presented here in the DVD-Audio format.
