Description:
History rocked and rock made history during a sold-out three-gig stand at Madison Square Garden in late February 2008 when icons Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood performed a concert together for the first time since their all-too-brief days in the legendary Blind Faith in 1969. Whether they will ever team again is unknown. But with Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood: Live From Madison Square Garden, fans everywhere are able to experience the sound and the glory of a performance on that famous stage by two of rock's greatest artists.
Whether Clapton blazes away on guitar or Winwood scorches the keys or the two trade guitar licks, the 20-song set is a classic. Among the highlights are the pair performing the entire A-side of 1969's Blind Faith, the only album by the supergroup ("Can't Find My Way Home," "Well Alright," "Presence Of The Lord"); songs from Winwood's stint in Traffic (including "Dear Mr. Fantasy"); Jimi Hendrix numbers ("Changes," "Little Wing," "Voodoo Child"); Clapton favorites ("Forever Man," "After Midnight," "Crossroads") and Winwood's solo "Georgia On My Mind."

Some time in the last few years Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers took a left turn. Maybe it was when Petty woke up in the night with the idea of reuniting his first band, Mudcrutch, to cut the album they never got a chance to make back in the early 70s. Maybe it was when the Heartbreakers assembled the mammoth multi-disc The Live Anthology, which detailed thirty years of concerts.

The instrumental "Love Theme From St. Elmo's Fire" by mega producer David Foster from his self-titled album hit the Top 15 in 1985, following the number one success of Foster's production of John Parr, also from the film St. Elmo's Fire. Foster's work overshadowed larger-than-life producers who came before him -- Jimmy Miller, who was signed to a CBS label as a vocalist before his stellar career with Blind Faith and the Rolling Stones, as well as Bob Crewe, who was produced by Jerry Wexler when he released the Motivation disc. One would think Foster could have launched himself further into the mainstream given his tremendous success -- or the fact that, unlike Crewe and Miller, he actually had a hit with Skylark in 1973, the Top Ten "Wildflower." An instrumental of that classic would have lent itself well to this Atlantic recording featuring a bevy of name session players from Carlos Vega to the horn section from the group Chicago, as well as Olivia Newton-John appearing on the tune "The Best of Me." Richard Page helps out with backing vocals on the Asia-sounding "Who's Gonna Love You Tonight," and "Sajé" is a very nice conclusion to the disc, which is all first class. ~ Joe Viglio

Lady GaGa is a theatrical dance-pop singer/songwriter/pianist who created a buzz for herself in the New York underground before making her major-label debut with Interscope Records in 2008. Influenced by flamboyant glam rockers such as David Bowie and Queen, as well as '80s dance-pop like Madonna and Michael Jackson, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta grew up in Manhattan, where she attended private school at the Convent of the Sacred Heart and later studied at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. At age 20 she began working as a songwriter for Interscope Records, where she penned songs for pop acts such as the Pussycat Dolls. She mounted a solo career several years later, releasing her chart-topping debut single, 'Just Dance,' in early 2008. Her debut album, The Fame, was issued in the United States later that year, and its Grammy-nominated success paved the way for a U.K. release in early 2009. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide

Editorial reviews
4 stars out of 5 -- [The songs] are among his most potent amorous exhortations....Sinatra's definitive workings of standards like 'Young At Heart,' 'Witchcraft,' 'Some Enchanted Evening' and 'That's All' still have the desired effect...

Liner Note Author: Tom Petty.
It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007.....

This 16-song collection is more a survey of sunshine pop than actual psychedelia, and is mostly valuable for gathering together a lot of singles by acts who otherwise either weren't too well represented on CD in 1992, or aren't the type of acts from whom most listeners would want more than a song or two in their collections -
