(Not Avaiable with promotional code or gift card) Review by bruser December 6, 2004 (3 of 4 found this review helpful) Performance: Sonics: This is a fine update of Gershwin by Herbie and friends, who include Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder doing vocal cameos. I especially enjoyed the 11 minute take on "Lullaby", featuring Herbie soloing in front of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra - it's tender and bluesy at the same time. That said, the 5.1 surround mix is stunning, maybe the best I've heard this year. The dynamics and soundstaging are perfect, making this a recording that can be enjoyed even at very low volume levels. Herbie's piano is mixed in all channels giving it a warm, sonorous quality, and the surrounds are used to great effect, spotlighting the horns, Stevie's harmonica, the orchestra and assorted percussion. And you've got to hear Joni Mitchell singing "The Man I Love." I did a double-take when I looked at the credits.

(Not Avaiable with promotional code or gift card) We’ve had the pleasure of enjoying and watching this imaginative singer/songwriter for well over 30 years. And while this may not be the ultimate Al Jarreau album, it is nonetheless, an amazing display of the focus and the artistic excellence of what this artist has maintained over the years.

Based on the two previous posts I decided to pick up Pure Getz. I'm sure glad I did! This is a stellar performance of Stan Getz's late period. The recording is remarkably clear making you feel like your right in the recording studio with Getz and his quartet. I enjoyed every track on this SACD, especially Blood Count. This SACD definitely comes recommended… Man Oh Man! This is a GOOD one. IMHO this is such a good disc that I suggest if you are in any way a Stan Getz fan, there is a space in your SACD library with the label: Stan Getz Quartet 'Pure Getz' written on it. I believe that every single aspect of this SACD deserves AT LEAST a five star rating.

Though not of audiophile standard I still find it pleasant to listen to. Despite the hardening treble the sound has a clarity to it and an atmospheric quality that I find appealing. This 1954 mono recording deserves its place in the collection of any lover of jazz vocals, although this one doesn't quite measure up to the audio standards of most audiophiles.

The recording that launched the concord Picante Label in 1980-and the first of half a dozen albums that the Latin jazz legend would make for concord-La Onda Va Bein is a Cal Tjader classic. But the fact was recognized more than 20 years ago, when this timeless Tjader opus was honored with a Grammyh Award for best latin Recording. Tjader's vibrant vibraphone resonated with a previously-unheard depth and nuance on Super Audio CD.
