Rock n' Roll the way we remember it

Review:
What can be said about this album that hasn't already been said? This is one of those classic, must have albums. With its southern-flavored, blues rock, impromptu jams and heavily loaded set list, this meaty album satisfies. Now, fully realized on SACD, this work from the brothers Allman, really shines.

Review:
Here, Creedence peels off very rocking versions of some of their best songs. Fogerty's growl is completely real and down on the corner, and he plays some truly sizzling guitar leads as well. The band was in great form, with tight rhythm section pumping away and the crowd loving it! My favorite is Tombstone Shadow, but all the versions they do on this night out are first rate. So, grab yer girl, and dig the Traveling Band!

SACD (2) Disc Set 1964-1971
When you're anthologizing the Rolling Stones, one of the first things you must accept is that you're doomed to failure. No one album can possibly tell the story of the band that's explored so many different musical avenues and recorded so many memorable songs. Still, the double-disc best of HOT ROCKS, and this, its sequel, come perilously close. This set wisely doesn't attempt to be comprehensive. Instead, it just picks out various gems from different points in the band's development.

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the....

In my opinion, "METAMORPHOSIS" is nothing less than an outstanding album! Many of the song tracks listed here were recorded live while the others are comprised of many studio outtakes.

Review:
The covers on this 1965 gem are a bit more obscure than on the Stones' first two long-players, not a bad thing for a band still getting its writing chops together (if admirably; "Heart of Stone" and "Surprise, Surprise" are particularly strong). If there were still doubts that these London kids had any business playing this music, a casually scorching "Down the Road Apiece" should have allayed them; the stomp they lay on Bo Diddley's "Mona" and Jagger's lazy drawl on the New Orleans obscurity "Down Home Girl" make for canny mood changes. ROLLING STONES "Between The Buttons" SACD (UK)
Review:
The Rolling Stones' 1967 recordings are a matter of some controversy; many critics felt that they were compromising their raw, rootsy power with trendy emulations of the Beatles, Kinks, Dylan, and psychedelic music. Approach this album with an open mind, though, and you'll find it to be one of their strongest, most eclectic LPs, with many fine songs that remain unknown to all but Stones devotees.

Generally regarded as Elton John's masterpiece, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD is a double-album (on one CD) that includes several of his signature songs alongside a sprawling array of lesser-known (but by no means lesser) tunes. The hits included "Bennie And The Jets," a funky, falsetto stomper; the Rolling Stonesy rocker "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"; and the gorgeous title ballad. "Candle In The Wind," an elegy for Marilyn Monroe, which didn't become a certified hit until 14 years later, when John re-recorded it with the Melbourne Symphony. The fact that it wasn't released as a single at the time is testimony to the wealth of pop pleasures available here.
